There is more than one way to form a simple loop on a headpin or eyepin. Beadworks shows you both so you can choose the one that works for you.
Tools Needed:
Step 1
Put your bead or beads on the head pin making sure there is at least ¼ of an inch of head pin left above the bead.
Step 2
Keep the bead or beads seated firmly against the base of the headpin and use your fingers to bend the headpin 90 degrees just above the top bead. The angle of the bend should be tight against the top of the bead.
Step 3
For a standard size loop, cut the pin ¼ of an inch from the bend. For a larger loop cut a little further away from the bend.
Step 4
Grip the pin in the jaws of the pliers so that the end of the pin is in the middle of the pliers. If you run your fingertip over the jaws you should not be able to feel the tip. Note that the size of the loop will depend both on the thickness of the pliers’ jaws and on the distance from the tip of the pliers. For a smaller loop grip the pin further towards the tip of the pliers, for a larger loop - further back.
Step 5
Gripping the pin between the jaws, roll the pliers so that the pin is bent upwards and over towards the top of the bead.
Step 6
Continue rolling the pliers, shifting your grip as necessary, until the end of the head pin meets the bend at the top of the bead.
