Jump rings are jewelry making essentials - learn proper technique
The join of a jump ring is not soldered together so, unlike a plain or soldered ring, it can be opened and closed to easily link together other findings and loops. To avoid distorting the shape of a jump ring and to make it close properly, it is important to open it the right way.
Tools Needed:
Step 1
Grip one side of the jump ring in the jaws of the flat-nosed pliers as shown. Use your fingers to bend the other side of the ring sideways to create a gap.
Step 2
Add the loops you are attaching together and grip both sides of the open jump ring in the jaws of the pliers.
Step 3
Gently grip the pliers, squeezing the sides of the jump ring together until the join is closed again.
